The core of our illustrations

The idea behind Nestie wasn’t to simply make a home interior brand; we wanted to create products that spark imagination in children, to inspire and encourage conversations about the beauty of nature once the sun has set and it’s time to come inside.

Looking back on my childhood, a time where phones and the internet weren’t in our back pockets, my fondest memories were of times spent outside.

Much like my co-founder Tom, one of my fondest memories also (strangely enough) involves frogs… One weekend, after a lot of nagging I’m sure, my parents agreed to let me and my sister dig a hole each, big enough to sit one half of a plastic shell sand pit, fill it with water and call it a pond.

Now let me preface this by explaining that I was a huge Ground force fan, cue an Alan Titchmarsh style plan and what, in my mind, was a fantastic sketch.

I set off on a hunt for the perfect spot for my pond, making sure it wouldn’t be too close to my sister’s chosen place.

I hadn’t anticipated how hard the ground would be during the height of summer, but undeterred I set off digging . After a full weekend working we were rewarded with a trip to a local aquarium shop where we were allowed to choose a few plants to adorn our ponds.

As a parent, I look back and think what a fantastic activity - both kids entertained, re-using materials destined for land fill, a sense of accomplishment and a weekend’s worth of fresh air.

But as a child, it was an opportunity to create a whole world, I can still feel the excitement I felt running out after school to check on the frogs that had chosen our ponds to call home.

I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time outdoors as a child and in my eyes our garden was nothing short of magic, from time spent creeping in-between the trees and the boundary wall to find fairies to the smell of tomatoes in my Grandad’s green house, If you were to ask my mum, she found the same magic in her own garden growing up and I know that shaped the way our childhood was spent, the same way my childhood shaped the way I have bought my own children up.

When sitting down to design the characters and illustrations for Nestie I knew I wanted to capture that same magic, the excitement of the world outside for those times when we can’t go outside.

There is a whole world of Nestie beyond our products, a world of magic, creativity, education and, most of all, an opportunity to create memories. I am excited to take you along on this journey as our brand grows and to show you how Nestie can not only fill your homes with beautiful, quality products but also inspire imagination in both child and adult alike.
